No more tailor tax

The Story

Two mates, both 5'9", both fed up with the same problem.

Every pair of pants we bought off the rack was a compromise.

Shortening the hem is the easy part; any tailor can chop off a few inches.

What they can’t fix is the rest: a rise that sits too high, knees that break in the wrong place, and pockets hanging at mid-thigh. It’s a taper designed for someone else, forced onto legs like ours.

So we'd spend an extra $40 at the tailor, walk out with pants that were shorter but still not right, and try to convince ourselves that a knee rip sitting on our shins was just how it was.

Here's the thing. 5'9" is the average height of Australian men. Not short. Not tall. Average. And yet not a single Australian menswear brand engineers pants for this build.

We thought that was mad.

So we built Sidelines.

Every pair of Sidelines pants is engineered from the ground up for 5'9" men. Not shortened. Not scaled down. The rise, the knee position, the pocket placement, the taper - all of it designed specifically for your build, straight off the rack.

No tailor. No compromise. No settling.

Pants that fit like they were made for you, because they were.

More than a name

Why Sidelines?

We get asked this a lot.

Years before any of this, we started a venture that proved we could build something from the ground up. We had big plans for the project, but unfortunately like a lot of good things in 2020, it didn't make it through.

But the foundation it built for us remained. When we started engineering this brand, continuing the legacy of the name felt right. It carries the history of how we got here.

But there's more to it than nostalgia.

It makes sense because it’s exactly where the fashion industry put us.

The average Australian bloke has been left on the sidelines by an industry that designs for someone taller. Every pant pattern, every fit block, every lookbook, all built for a customer who isn't him. The industry forgot who the average actually is.

We kept the name to honour where we started. We built Sidelines to bring him back into the game.
